In addition to the current 480 acres of water open to fishing, Paradise Public Fishing Area (Berrien County) will re-open the 28-acre Horseshoe 5 lake at sunrise on October 1, 2014, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division.
“We are excited to get this recreational opportunity back open to the public and are pleased to share that the bass population on Horseshoe 5 is healthy, with a high percentage of the fish weighing between one and two pounds,” said Bert Deener, fisheries management region supervisor. “Additionally, anglers have the potential to catch good numbers of bream and looking ahead, future management plans will focus on maintaining abundant forage-sized fish in order to enhance bass growth rates and provide a quality bream fishery.”
Horseshoe 5 has been closed for renovation and re-stocking since the summer of 2012. During that time, the lake was drained and major repairs made to the leaking structure. Last spring, once repairs were complete, the lake was re-stocked with bass and bream and with forage fish such as threadfin shad and other species.
